This past monday Dick Dale asked GoDaddy tech support to call him back (for real) so that he could take a few minutes to talk with me. If you've ever heard a Dick Dale interview before (this was my second one), you probably know that he does a good job of interviewing himself. There are certain themes that will come up, but definitely a few things I'd never heard before: a surprising amount of Elvis, Glen Campbell, thoughts on traveling and what touring does for him, as well as insight into the ideas behind his music, talks with Leo Fender etc that often come up during interviews.

Wow! The\Les Vice Barons released two great LPs back in the 90's and since then I would have presumed they were done. But here we are with a brand new EP. Four songs, including a great version of The Model. I wonder of Kraftwerk knows that their tune has somehow become a surf standard. Anyway, this one's great: it sounds gigantic, and there's some great organ playing all over it.

It's been a good while since the Invisible Surfers' last LP "Till That Day" and it's great to see them back. They've changed - a lot less fuzz, a lot more traditional reverb-drenched sound, but they've also stayed the same - aggressive, quick-picked, adrenaline-minded. You can give a listen to the previews and purchase it over at CDBaby
the starfires - Somethin' Else (surf guitars rumble)
the mel-tones - suicide clutch (surf sensation)
the aqualads - house of siam (revenge)
the atlantics - Shark Attack (now it's stompin' time)
johnny zorro - where's chico (frolic diner vol 6)
the wailers - tough walk (tall cool one)
bill justis - college man - 45
link wray and the wraymen - slinky (link wray)
roger lavern & the microns - jackson's jump (vampires, cowboys, spacemen and spooks)
the mysterions - Transylvania - 45
the blazers - bangalore (surf legends and rumors)
The Tarantinos NYC have a new LP out chock full of film soundtrack surf covers. They've been at it for a while though, and they're starting to dig pretty damn deep - a few covers that I certainly haven't heard! They've also written a few originals! I've only heard a few of the samples on CDbaby, but it sounds like it's got a good punch and a good traditional surf sound.
