Boss Fink releases R.P.M.

Boss Fink - R.P.M.

At last the debut album from Boss Fink, featuring members of the Ghastly Ones, Thee Cormans, and The Huntington Cads -- definitely some A-list pedigree. They had a great 7" out on Double Crown last year that confirmed what we had hoped out of them, but I think everybody was *really* waiting for the full length. Wait no longer! From what I've heard this is a pretty straight-ahead trad sound but plenty aggressive and mean. Here, watch some youtube

The Aqua Velvets release Morocco

The Aqua Velvets - Morocco

This looks like the first record in about 5 years from the masters of moody surf The Aqua Velvets, and if you were already a fan you should feel right at home. If you're new to them, expect slow, perhaps lonely surf guitar with flamenco touches, sparse percussion, and still plenty of reverb. I'd put them close to a band like Friends of Dean Martinez but still on the surf side. Big Lazy sound similar as well, but the Aqua Velvets predate them significantly.

Trabants release FREAKOUT

Trabants - FREAKOUT

Every Trabants release has stuck out to me so far, and this is no exception. Or rather, this is also exceptional. You know what I mean. I'm not sure if I can pinpoint exactly what it is, they just seem to be one of those bands where everything lands in the right place. The drums aren't necessarily showy, but keep things moving in the right way, and really know how to add some punch when they need to. They've always got a good helping of variety and fresh ideas on every album, and the tunes stick with you.

Hella Vader - The Frig*O*Riffic Fuzz Sounds of...

Ideally I would have discovered this before Halloween but Hella Vader likes to date all their releases to 1964 in Bandcamp so it passed me by. But if you want to turn back the clock a week, this should be pretty excellent listening. Hella Vader is never really straightforward, but this is one long cut-up of previous songs and new ones and general guitar weirdness that definitely would have weirded the kids out when they knocked on the door.

The Tiki Creeps release Invaders From Beyond The Sound Of Surf

Tiki Creeps - Invaders From Beyond The Sound Of Surf

From checking out their , it looks like the Tiki Creeps tend to play with a lot of burlesque groups. Despite that, this isn't exactly a Las Vegas Grind sound, but instead reminds me more of French groups like the Irradiates, Taikonauts, and Demon Vendetta - aggressive wtih a big overdriven guitar sound, and great production. It can get a little creepy too, though I guess that's implied by the name. There are a few slower tracks to round it out too.
