Los Ultraman release Paradigma Jurásico

 Los Ultraman - Paradigma Jurásico

On their third release I think Los Ultraman finally found their groove. Their last two releases showed moments of interesting ideas that never quite found their way into something that worked for me. The opening track "Non DNA Man" immediately shows off where they've gone: a pastiche of familiar surf riffs with wild saxophone riffs slowly getting wilder and more effect-driven, eventually spiraling into some Sun Ra spaciness before kicking right back into gear.

It continues from there: elegantly constructed surf melodies with a likelihood to shoot into another dimension at a moments notice. After that first track, the next one to really go wild is "Charrúa Western Massacre (Agua Sucia)" but that's following the genuinely sweet ballad "Agrotrip".

The closer "La Conocí En El Phono" is particularly memorable, with a nostalgic sound that really puts a nice endcap on a great record.

Even the cover art, done by their guitarist just like their previous EP, is more immediately impactful and thought-provoking than before. An unexpected and somewhat nonsensical remix of the Andy Warhol banana that still manages to please. It makes sense!
