Duane Eddy is trying to raise some cash to make a follow-up to 2011's Road Trip. He's using a service called PledgeMusic, which I haven't used before -- doesn't seem to say what the total amount is but he's 68% there as of writing.
I actually never got around to hearing Road Trip and I'm going to go ahead and say it: this is a bit on the expensive side. Digital download comes in at $12, vinyl is $55. Yow!
However, I went for it and I'll tell you why: Duane came in town for the Ponderosa Stomp a few years ago. I was volunteering and stepped outside for a minute, only to have the door behind me lock. So I waited for another volunteer to come out for a smoke break. Instead I got Duane Eddy. I introduced myself, told him about my radio show, and he was so genuinely friendly. He actually seemed interested to meet me, wanted to know more about me, even introduced me to his wife. If you watch the video on this PledgeMusic page, I think that comes across, saying that if you like his music "we can become friends". So I thought "Well, shoot, I'll spot ya $25, friend".
I don't know, maybe he's a more shrewd marketer than his persona lets on and he caught me in his scheme, but I really think the humbleness is real, and I'm looking forward to hearing this record.
