New Orleans! There's some surf to see this week!

Guantanamo Baywatch Thursday at Siberia

Surf nuts don't usually have a lot of options in New Orleans (though you do have local options The Unnaturals, The Bills, Bruiser Broussard, Blood Urchin and Rondo Hatton in Baton Rouge) but this week we've got two visiting. Two sorta surf bands. I figure it's enough to make a post about.

Thursday is Guantanamo Baywatch! They've actually dropped onto the show TWICE. Maybe I'll see if I can dig those files up and post them here. In the meantime, they play some pretty killer intsrumentals and unhinged Trashmen-like garage vocal tracks. If you haven't caught them yet,  is your opportunity. Here's what they sound like:

Then the next night (November 7th) at the Circle Bar is . A good chunk of their stuff is sweet surf instrumentals, the rest is pretty all over the place between punk, no-wave, psych you name. Their album was produced by Greg Ashley of The Gris Gris -- also not surf but definitely full of reverb. Never seen 'em live but I'm curious to see!
